Movement 3 – Constellation | INTERCULT

Training Manual for Trainers: Teaching Group Movement and Spatial Relationship Tracking

Objective Equip trainers with a step-by-step guide to effectively teach group movement tracking and spatial relationships as performance control input, enabling collective and interactive performance experiences.

Structure of the Training Session

  1. Preparation (approx. 10 minutes)
  • Objective: Set up multi-person tracking and spatial analysis

•     Steps:

  1. Research multi-person tracking systems (computer vision or sensor-based approaches).
  2. Prepare spatial analysis algorithms for proximity, formation, and movement
  3. Set up 3D graphics and stage control systems for group interactionChecklist:
  • Wide-angle camera or multiple sensors for group coverage.
  • Multi-person tracking software configured and
  • Spatial relationship analysis algorithms
  • 3D visualization and stage control systems

2.   Introduction to Group Movement Tracking (approx. 15 minutes)

  • Objective: Demonstrate how collective movement can drive performance

•     Steps:

  1. Explain multi-person detection and spatial relationship
  2. Show examples of group-interactive installations and
  3. Demonstrate different group dynamics: proximity, synchronization,Trainer Tip: Use simple group exercises to immediately show spatial relationship detection.

3.   Hands-on Practice (approx. 30 minutes)

  • Objective: Build a basic group movement responsive

•     Steps:

  1. Set up multi-person detection and tracking.
  2. Implement basic spatial relationship detection (distance, clustering, formation).
  3. Map group dynamics to visual and lighting control parameters.Trainer Tip: Work with 3-4 participants to demonstrate different group configurations and their effects.

4.   Advanced Features and Creative Use Cases (approx. 15 minutes)

  • Objective: Explore complex group interaction analysis and performance

•     Steps:

  1. Demonstrate advanced group behavior recognition (leadership, following, mirroring).
  2. Show temporal analysis of group movement patterns and
  3. Explore integration with narrative and choreographic

5.   Wrap-Up and Feedback (approx. 10 minutes)

  • Objective: Consolidate group interaction and spatial relationship

•     Steps:

  1. Review multi-person tracking and spatial analysis
  2. Share resources for group dynamics research and collective interaction
  3. Encourage exploration of different group sizes and social interaction

Post-Training Follow-Up

  • Provide access to recordings, cheat sheets, or tool
  • Schedule optional Q&A sessions or office

Trainer Tip: Encourage a collaborative group where participants can share projects and solutions.
