Creative writing with ChatGPT – Manual | CUBE

1. Preparation (approx. 10 minutes)  

Objective: Set the space for an open, creative, and focused session. 

Steps: 

  • Familiarize yourself with ChatGPT and its prompt-based interaction model.
  • Prepare a short presentation on creative uses of AI in writing and dramaturgy – you may showcase the tutorial in this section.
  • Ensure stable internet connection and access to ChatGPT (via browser or API-based tool).

Checklist: 

  • ChatGPT account set up.
  • Presentation slides / tutorial / example texts.
  • Printed or digital handouts with sample prompts and exercises.

2. Introduction to the Tool (approx. 15 minutes) 

Objective: Help participants understand how ChatGPT can be used as a writing partner. 

Steps: 

  • Explain what ChatGPT is and how it works (basic knowledge model overview).
  • Showcase examples of how it can support idea generation, character development, and dialogue creation.
  • Present real or hypothetical use cases from theatre/performance work.

Trainer Tip: Use storytelling or role-play examples to connect the tool to participants’ creative practices. 

3. Hands-on Practice (approx. 30 minutes) 

Objective: Allow participants to interact with ChatGPT and experiment with dramaturgical tasks. 

Steps:  

  • Task 1: Prompt ChatGPT to generate 3 original story ideas based on a given theme (e.g., ‘loss and transformation’).
  • Task 2: Choose one idea and ask ChatGPT to develop two main characters.
  • Task 3: Develop a short scene (5-10 lines) based on those characters, including basic conflict and resolution.

Τrainer Tip: Encourage participants to refine and edit ChatGPT’s output to suit their personal style.  

  1. Advanced Features and Creative Use Cases (approx. 15 minutes)

Objective: Expand participants’ view of how ChatGPT can support broader dramaturgical processes. 

Steps: 

  • Explore prompts of structuring acts/scenes or brainstorming visual concepts and metaphors.
  • Demonstrate how ChatGPT can help with rewriting or language stylization.
  • Brief discussion on ethical considerations and authorship in AI-supported creation.

Trainer Tip: Suggest integrating ChatGPT into collaborative devising or solo writing routines.
